The Nordson AMI D9650 C-SAM acoustic microscope is a nondestructive inspection system designed for failure analysis, process development, material characterization and low-volume component screening.
Using high-frequency ultrasound, the system produces detailed images of internal material interfaces without cutting or damaging the sample. It helps identify hidden defects such as delamination, voids, cracks, air gaps and bonding anomalies in ICs, BGAs, QFNs, wafers, substrates and power modules.
PolyGate technology, including Multi-Gate and Probing-Gate functions, supports up to 100 gates per channel for single-focus and multi-focus imaging.
WHAT IS THE NORDSON AMI D9650 USED FOR?
The Nordson AMI D9650 is a C-SAM acoustic microscope designed for laboratory failure analysis, process development, material characterization and low-volume component inspection.
C-SAM stands for C-mode Scanning Acoustic Microscopy. This technology is also commonly known as SAT – Scanning Acoustic Tomography in many Asian markets.
Instead of cutting a sample to inspect its internal structure, the D9650 uses high-frequency ultrasound to create images of internal material interfaces. This enables engineers to inspect valuable components without damaging them.

PolyGate Technology
PolyGate combines Multi-Gate and Probing-Gate functions to support both single-focus and multi-focus imaging. Up to 100 gates can be configured per channel for the analysis of multiple layers and depth regions within the same sample.
High-Accuracy Scanning
The system provides a mechanical scan area of 314 × 314 mm and X-Y accuracy of ±0.5 µm, making it suitable for detailed inspection of electronic and semiconductor components.
Sonolytics 2 Software
Nordson Sonolytics 2 supports scan setup, data acquisition, image processing and inspection-result analysis through an operator-friendly software interface.
Flexible System Configuration
The D9650 can be configured with different transducers and options according to sample dimensions, materials, product structure and the target defects.
Available options include Digital Image Analysis, water recirculation, a Waterfall transducer and inline temperature control.
